Flames 4, Red Wings 1: Farabee's Three-Point Night

October 24, 2026 - Calgary - Adam Klapka threw it toward the net. Joel Farabee was in the right spot. He snapped it past John Gibson's glove at 17:50 of the first, and Scotiabank Saddledome had 1-0 in a building where Detroit had won four straight.

The Calgary Flames beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1. Calgary is 4-6-0, three in a row and four of five after opening 0-5-0. Detroit is 4-4-3, a six-game point streak (3-0-3) over. Shots were 29-25 Detroit. Attendance was 17,779, per ESPN. Zayne Parekh, Adam Klapka, and J.T. Compher are not seeded on AthX player pages, so those names stay unlinked.

Farabee had a goal and two assists. Matvei Gridin had a goal and an assist. Matt Coronato had two assists. Devin Cooley stopped 28 of 29 and won his third straight start. The Associated Press recap said he has stopped 100 of 104 shots in that streak. Andrew Copp scored. Gibson stopped 21 of 25.

Farabee, on NHL.com: we've just been stacking wins and stacking good play the last couple games here. We just have a little bit of confidence and a little bit of swagger right now that maybe we didn't have the first five or six games of the season.

Copp ties it, then two power plays in the second

Copp evened it at 2:22 of the second. He outbattled Parekh at the top of the crease and poked a loose puck past Cooley. Detroit coach Todd McLellan told NHL.com they made a real grave mistake on the first goal, but they fought back and found a way to even it up.

Parekh scored his first of the season on the power play at 8:38. Point shot, off Gibson's left pad. Coronato and Farabee the assists. Parekh told NHL.com they are moving pucks around and finding the open guy, and guys are scoring, which is important.

Ryan Strome made it 3-1 at 17:04. He battled into the slot and swatted a Morgan Frost pass. Gridin the other helper. Calgary coach Ryan Huska told NHL.com this was Gridin's best game of the year, and Strome played a big part of that.

Gridin one-timed Farabee at 18:30 for Calgary's second power-play goal of the period. 4-1. "It feels great," Gridin told NHL.com. "I was supposed to be on the half wall, but I moved to the bumper spot and found the open ice. They want me to shoot more, that's for sure."

The Flames went 2-for-2 on the power play and are 6-for-12 in their past four games, the NHL recap said. Detroit went 0-for-2.

A streak ends in a building Detroit used to own

McLellan: they were obviously better than us in multiple areas, look at the special teams alone. I thought it was one of our poorer nights as far as execution goes. When we did work hard and got offensive opportunities, passes were in the skates, they were too far ahead.

The NHL recap said Detroit had won eight straight against Calgary since Feb. 9, 2023, including four in a row at the Saddledome. Emmitt Finnie told NHL.com they knew Calgary was feeling themselves, and it showed. They were the better team, and they came out with the two points.

Huska: I really liked our game again. I feel like we're building right now in the right direction. I felt like this was our most complete game or close to it this year. On the power play: when it is scoring and things are going their way, they start feeling really good about playing on the ice and they know they can be difference makers.

Farabee has a four-game point streak (two goals, four assists) and leads Calgary with nine points in 10 games, the NHL recap said.

AthX Engine on a 4-1 that still got outshot

AthX Engine (our projection and scoring system) scored Cooley at 13.00: a win, 28 saves, one goal against. Farabee is 11.30. Gridin is 9.90 with a power-play bonus. Copp is 7.00 on five shots. Coronato is 6.20. Gibson's 21-save loss is 3.60. Calgary's club line is 19.80, sixth on Saturday's team board. Detroit floors at 0.00.

Fantasy points measure the box. Price is what traders will pay for Farabee after 11.30, and for a Red Wings club that had points in six straight and still left 4-1. They move together. They are not the same number.

Track Farabee, Cooley, Gridin, and both clubs on the marketplace. Toronto visits Calgary on Monday. Detroit visits Edmonton that night.
