Mariners Acquire Cooper Criswell from Mets for Cash

The Seattle Mariners acquired right-handed swingman Cooper Criswell from the New York Mets for cash on January 24, 2026. The Mets had designated Criswell for assignment on January 21 to clear roster space after acquiring Freddy Peralta; Criswell had been claimed off waivers from the Red Sox on December 5. The Move
Criswell, 29, gives Seattle pitching depth as a potential bullpen contributor or spot starter. In 2025 he pitched in seven games (one start) for Boston with a 3.57 ERA in 17⅔ innings. He also made 14 starts and two relief appearances for Triple-A Worcester with a 3.70 ERA in 65⅔ innings. The Mariners designated left-hander Jhonathan Díaz for assignment to make room for Criswell.
AthX Impact
Criswell is a depth arm—his AthX impact is limited unless he earns a larger role in Seattle's bullpen or rotation. The Mariners' bullpen had a 3.72 ERA in 2025, ninth-best in MLB; Criswell adds optionality without moving the needle for star-focused portfolios.
