Chiefs 22, Chargers 6: Walker’s Two Scores Keep Kansas City 5-0

October 18, 2026 - Kansas City - Patrick Mahomes finally watched last December's Chargers tape this week. Ligaments in his left knee. Season gone. He did not dwell on it. Then Kenneth Walker III found a hole, ran away from the last defender, and scored from 33. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 and stayed 5-0.

Los Angeles is 0-6. Miami is the only other club still without a win, and Miami had the week off. Jim Harbaugh called it the Chargers' worst start since 2000. He said there was no justification that would not sound like an excuse.

Mahomes went 23 of 30 for 272 yards, no touchdowns, and one pick. The AP recap said it was his 100th career regular-season win, in 131 starts, matching Tom Brady for fewest starts to 100. Walker added 19 carries for 128 and those two scores. Xavier Worthy caught seven for 73. nflverse has Travis Kelce at four for 53. The AP recap listed five catches for 53. 3-0, then 33 yards that ended the argument

Kansas City opened with a field goal and never trailed, the club wrote. Walker's 33-yarder was the second series. The Chiefs said it was his seventh run of 20-plus this season, the league lead. Cameron Dicker answered from 23. 9-3.

Walker punched through a pile from 2 with just under two minutes left in the half. Harrison Butker missed the extra point. The Chargers went three-and-out. Kansas City used the leftover clock for Butker from 50. 19-6 at the break, the Chiefs said, 10 points in 1:49.

The AP recap had Walker bouncing off a defensive tackle on the 2-yarder. Mahomes smiled afterward: the first guy never tackles him.

Justin Herbert threw an interception to Jack Cochrane in the first half, his eighth of the season, the AP said. Later he ran into Nick Bolton on third down. Los Angeles reached inside the Kansas City 15 after the break, then a run went nowhere and two incompletions. Dicker from 30. That was the last Chargers score.

A receiver room that had to be small, and a line that finally got home

Rashee Rice (hamstring) and Tyquan Thornton (IR, ankle) were out. Kelce played through an ankle. Worthy led the club in yards. Rookie Cyrus Allen had 27, including a 23-yard catch in the fourth, ESPN's Nation notes said. Andrew Armstrong, elevated from the practice squad, caught his first regular-season ball for 13, the Chiefs wrote.

Butker made 44, 50, and 30. nflverse has him 3 of 4 on field goals and 1 of 2 on extra points. The AP recap said he missed a PAT and a field-goal try. Kansas City still won by 16 because Los Angeles never found the end zone.

Herbert went 22 of 37 for 204, no scores, one pick, four sacks. He ran five times for 26. The Chargers finished with 259 yards, both clubs and the AP agree. Omarion Hampton had seven carries for 18 and four catches for 21. Kimani Vidal added seven for 21. Ladd McConkey caught one for 17, then left with a concussion in the second quarter, the AP wrote. Joe Alt and Kayode Awosika were already out. Tre' Harris did not play.

Ashton Gillotte got Herbert down in the third, ending a three-game Kansas City stretch without a sack, ESPN's Nate Taylor wrote. The Chiefs listed four sacks: Gillotte, George Karlaftis, Chamarri Conner, and a split between Peter Woods and Chris Jones. The club also claimed two takeaways, three stops on downs, and four three-and-outs.

Chris Roland-Wallace was ejected for throwing a punch at Chargers right tackle Alex Harkey early in the fourth, the AP said. Jaylon Moore left with a concussion.

Kansas City is 3-0 in the AFC West. The Chargers go to a bye. Harbaugh said the offense has to look at everything.
