Shortstop Bo Bichette and the New York Mets agreed to a three-year, $126 million contract on January 16, 2026, pending a physical. The deal includes two opt-outs (after 2026 and 2027), a $5 million bonus if Bichette exercises either option, a full no-trade clause, and no deferred money.
The Deal
Bichette, 27, is transitioning from shortstop to third base after a strong 2025 season with the Blue Jays—he slashed .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs. The agreement came 18 hours after the Mets missed out on Kyle Tucker, who signed with the Dodgers. Bichette, the son of four-time All-Star Dante Bichette, made his MLB debut in 2019 and has been a consistent middle-of-the-order bat for Toronto.
AthX Impact
Bichette's move to the Mets could be interesting for fantasy owners. The Mets' lineup and ballpark factors will affect his production. His price may see volatility as traders assess the impact of the new team and position change. Watch for price dips during the transition period—could be a buying opportunity if you believe in Bichette's talent.
