Blue Jays 7, Mariners 0: Scherzer's 10 Strikeouts, One Hit Allowed

One hit. Zero runs. Scherzer at Rogers Centre.

August 30, 2026 – Toronto – Cal Raleigh doubled. That was the Seattle Mariners offense. The rest of the afternoon was Max Scherzer throwing strikes, two homers from the Toronto Blue Jays, and a 7-0 win that completed a three-game sweep.

Scherzer worked seven innings, one hit, no runs, one walk, 10 strikeouts. Braydon Fisher and Spencer Miles finished a one-hitter. Logan Gilbert (11-8) lasted five innings, three runs, six hits, and took the loss. ESPN called it vintage. The box score did not need the adjective. Ten punchouts and a zero will do.

Kirk in the first, then the slow build

Brett Bateman reached. Alejandro Kirk hit a fly ball to left-center, his eighth homer of the year. 2-0 before Gilbert had recorded three outs. That was the only damage until the fifth, when Myles Straw scored on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s double to left. 3-0.

Kazuma Okamoto homered to center in the sixth, his 28th. 4-0. The eighth added three more. George Springer and Nathan Lukes scored on Andrés Giménez's single to center. Bateman doubled Okamoto home. 7-0. Nick Davila was charged with the three in the eighth. Seranthony Domínguez and Gabe Speier each threw an inning around that. None of it changed the fact that Gilbert had already handed Scherzer a lead he was never going to give back.

Toronto finished with 10 hits. Kirk went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Springer went 2-for-4 with a double. Okamoto walked, homered, and scored twice. Guerrero's double was his only hit and his only RBI. Bateman walked twice, doubled, stole a base, and drove in a run. The Jays did not need a 16-run night. They needed enough runs to make a one-hitter look like a game, and they got seven.

Seven innings that owned the slate

Scherzer (2-7) threw seven zeroes. Raleigh's double was the only Mariners hit. One walk. Ten strikeouts. Fisher struck out two in a clean eighth. Miles struck out three in the ninth, walking one. Seattle did not put a runner on third. It did not put a second hit in play.

Gilbert's five innings were not a disaster. Six hits, three earned, one walk, four strikeouts, Kirk's two-run shot the loudest ball. The rest of Seattle's staff allowed the last four. Julio Rodríguez went hitless. Randy Arozarena went hitless. The club that has lived on homers and nights like Raleigh's three-homer game last week got nothing. One double. Zero runs. Sweep.

The Associated Press noted Scherzer moved into ninth on the career strikeout list. That is a career line for another day. Sunday was simpler: the oldest arm on the staff threw like the best pitcher on a 14-game slate, and Toronto finished the weekend without allowing a Seattle run in the finale.

Fantasy points measure the outing. Share price is a different market. One good Sunday does not set the other number by itself.

What's next

Toronto swept a club it needed to beat if the wild-card math is going to stay honest. Seattle leaves with one hit in the finale and a rotation that just watched Gilbert take an 11-8 loss. Scherzer's 10 strikeouts travel. Raleigh's lonely double does too, for the wrong reason.
