August 15, 2026 - Chicago - Deshaun Watson's first live snaps in nearly two years looked fine for a half. Then the Chicago Bears scored 34 unanswered and sent the Cleveland Browns home 34-10.
Watson went 11-of-15 for 126 yards and led two early scoring drives. Cleveland led 10-0 after Andre Szmyt's field goal and a 14-yard touchdown run by first-rounder KC Concepcion. Caleb Williams sat. Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum finished the night.
Watson's return, then the fumble
Watson last played Oct. 20, 2024. Shoulder, Achilles, and the long layoff sat behind every dropback. Saturday he threw it around, took hits, and moved Cleveland into the end zone once. Concepcion, who also caught three passes for 27 yards, punched in from 14 on the first play of the second quarter.
"It was good to be able to feel the hits and get tackled a little bit and just, again, play football and throw the ball around," Watson said.
The downside arrived on a sack. Watson lost a fumble in the second quarter. Cleveland's first-half lead never grew after that.
Bagent, Keenum, and 34 unanswered
Bagent worked the first half: 13-of-22, 169 yards, one touchdown, one interception. Keenum was sharper after the break: 9-of-10, 151 yards, two touchdowns. Ben Johnson let wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El call plays in the second half and liked what he saw.
"I think it was a phenomenal experience for him," Johnson said. Chicago finished with 348 passing yards and three touchdown throws. The 10-0 hole became a 34-10 win.
Sanders, Gabriel, and Monken's next plan
Shedeur Sanders played the third quarter and into the fourth: 6-of-11, 79 yards, one interception. Beanie Bishop Jr. picked off a badly overthrown ball intended for Malachi Corley. "It was the right read," Sanders said. "It just slipped."
Dillon Gabriel mopped up and also threw an interception. Bishop finished with both Chicago picks. Gabriel was 5-of-8 for 23 yards.
Todd Monken is still sorting his quarterback room. The next step is clear: Sanders starts against Buffalo, Watson opens the second half, and the two share starting reps in Thursday's joint practice.
"The plan was always to get through the Bills game, switch up who was going to start, who was going to play in the second half, and then we'll go from there," Monken said.
AthX Engine, if this were a regular-season card
Apply the AthX Engine NFL scoring table to the box, not a live weekly leaderboard.
Keenum's 151 pass yards and two touchdowns is about 24 quarterback fantasy points. Bagent's 169 and a TD is about 19 before the pick. Watson's 126 yards without a passing TD is about 10. Concepcion's 14-yard rush TD plus 27 receiving yards is about 15 skill points. Preseason production is not a weekly leaderboard yet. Fantasy points are not share prices.
