[[Avisail Garcia]] announced his retirement on February 2, 2026, closing a 12-year MLB career that included an All-Star appearance in 2017 and over $84 million in earnings.
Career Summary
Garcia, 34, played for the Tigers, White Sox, Rays, Brewers, and Marlins. He debuted in 2012 and became an everyday right fielder after Chicago acquired him in the 2013 Jake Peavy three-team trade. His 2017 season was his best: .330/.380/.506 with 18 homers—only Jose Altuve's MVP campaign stood between him and the AL batting title.
He topped 20 homers with the Rays (2019) and a career-best 29 with the Brewers (2021). The Marlins signed him to a four-year, $53 million deal in 2022, but his production dropped sharply. He was released in June 2024 and underwent back surgery that fall for a fracture and disc injury, sidelining him for all of 2025 and ultimately ending his career.
