49ers 32, Seahawks 29: Purdy Twice in the Fourth, Then a Yard Short

October 11, 2026 - Seattle - Fourth-and-10 from midfield. Under a minute. Sam Darnold dumped it to Cooper Kupp. Malik Mustapha met him at the San Francisco 41. One yard short. The review stood. The San Francisco 49ers stayed 5-0.

They beat the Seattle Seahawks 32-29 at Lumen Field. Seattle is 3-2. Brock Purdy went 19 of 29 for 189 yards, two scores, and one pick. He needed two fourth-quarter scoring drives after Seattle had led 26-21. Eddy Pineiro hit 44 with 1:56 left. ESPN's recap called that kick 43. The 49ers, the ESPN scoring plays, and nflverse all list 44. We are using 44.

Mike Evans caught seven for 113 and a 2-yard score, then the two-point throw that made it 29-26. The 49ers said the first touchdown was his 111th, tied with Tony Gonzalez for ninth in NFL history. Christian McCaffrey ran 11 times for 68 and scored from 11.

Short fields, then a fumble in the end zone

Evans from 2 at 11:12 of the first, after Renardo Green's first interception set up the 18-yard drive, the 49ers said. 7-0. Emanuel Wilson answered from 2. 7-7. Jason Myers from 49. 7-10.

Fred Warner forced a fumble. Mustapha recovered at the Seattle 11. McCaffrey scored on the next play. 14-10. Myers from 50. 14-13.

Gracen Halton stripped George Holani and recovered in the end zone, ESPN said, with 13 seconds left in the half. 21-13. It was the loudest defensive score of San Francisco's 5-0 start. The 49ers finished with four takeaways and five sacks, the club said. Purdy had not been sacked all season. He was sacked three times Sunday.

Myers five times, Purdy twice late

Myers from 43 cut it to 21-16. Purdy then threw it to Nehemiah Pritchett. Darnold hit Jaxon Smith-Njigba from 16. 21-23. Myers from 48. 21-26 after three. Five Myers field goals on the night: 49, 50, 43, 48, 40. No misses.

San Francisco trailed 26-21 to start the fourth. Purdy converted third-and-10 with Evans for 23, then escaped second-and-21 after intentional grounding with Evans for 28, the Seattle Times said. Brandin Cooks caught the 7-yarder at 11:02. Evans caught the two-point. 29-26.

Myers from 40 tied it at 29 with 6:55 left. San Francisco ran 8, 13, and 11, then lost a yard on third-and-1 when Byron Murphy II and Uchenna Nwosu stopped Kaelon Black, the Times said. Pineiro from 44. 32-29.

Darnold's last chance died on the Kupp catch. Smith-Njigba also had a ball slip through his hands on that drive, the Times wrote. He still finished five for 102 and the 16-yard score, plus a 16-yard rush.

Turnovers on both sidelines

Darnold was 18 of 29 for 195, one score, two picks. Wilson ran 20 times for 61 and the first Seattle touchdown. Kupp caught two for 15. The last one was a yard short of the sticks. Green finished with two interceptions. George Kittle caught five for 24. Deebo Samuel had two catches for 21 and two rushes for 4. Kaelon Black ran six times for 16 and took the third-and-1 loss that forced Pineiro's winner.

Pineiro missed from 52. Purdy's pick to Pritchett set up the Smith-Njigba score. Dre Greenlaw was ejected, ESPN said. The clubs combined for seven turnovers, an NFL season high at the time, the recap said. San Francisco still left with the West lead and the head-to-head, the Times noted, after two losses to Seattle last winter including a playoff game.

McCaffrey called Evans a difference maker who upped the standard, the 49ers posted. The standard on this night was takeaways and a kicker from 44. The Seattle Times noted San Francisco was held 2 yards under its season average per play (4.8 against a 6.8 mark that had led the NFL) and still left with the win because Seattle put the ball on the grass. Two lost fumbles and two Darnold interceptions became three San Francisco touchdowns, the Times wrote. That is how 5-0 looks when the offense is ordinary.
